Fostering Interests: Teacher Collaboration - How Do We Take This Further?

The teachers of room 6 at the Gilliate building have taken notice in the children’s interest in the studio’s light provocations. Knowing that they could expand upon this, Ms. Kierra approached with a magnificent idea! She suggested that we project photographs onto the wall in order to provoke discussion and interaction. Today, we were able to begin this investigation! To start, Ms. Michelle suggested that the children photograph each other so they would be observing their own work through the projector. Once the photo shoot was finished, the children made their way back into a dark space in which their photographs would easily be seen when displayed. They “played” with their shadows, discussed what they saw, and traced parts of their faces onto paper.

That was “covered” by each projected photo! This is just yet another example of expanding upon known concepts and how children may correlate one activity to the next. Also, the importance of collaboration is evident. The educators had an amazing idea, brought it to my attention, discussed the “hows” and “whys”, and allowed us to get a running start toward new concepts!!!

 

Erin: I see myself smiling.

Heaven: I see her hair! I see her dress!

Kaley: A headband in her hair.

Erin: (drawing) I gave her a mustache!

Ms. Kierra: Look, you can even see the lines in your shirt!

Erin: Yeah, but I’m ‘gonna color my clips!

David: I’m making myself.

BJ: You put it (projector) on and it lights up there.

BJ: When my brain freeze, it go like this (makes his hand shadow bite/smash his face in the projected photo).
